In a major security operation, the Lagos State Police Command has successfully rescued three Lebanese brothers, Abbas, Youssef, and Amtal Fouani, who were abducted on June 14 while returning from their factory by boat. The brothers, along with their boat captain and assistant, were held captive for several days by unknown kidnappers who demanded a ransom from their family.

The daring rescue was carried out late last night by the Marine Police unit, with support from the Nigerian Navy, in the Orugbo Iddo area of Lagos. According to police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, the hostages were brought ashore safely and reunited with their family in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

One of the rescued brothers, Abbas Fouani, is the Managing Director of Fouani Nigeria Limited, a prominent electronics distribution company that is the sole distributor of LG, Hisense, and Maxi products in Nigeria. The kidnapping of such high-profile business figures highlights the persistent security challenges faced by the commercial capital of Africa’s largest economy.

While the successful rescue operation is a victory for law enforcement, the incident raises concerns about the vulnerability of businesses and their employees to criminal elements in Lagos. The use of waterways for transportation, although environmentally friendly, may have left the Fouani brothers exposed to the risk of abduction.

Security analysts suggest that companies operating in high-risk areas should implement robust security protocols, including the use of armed escorts and regular risk assessments. Besides, authorities must intensify efforts to dismantle kidnapping rings and address the root causes of such crimes, which can deter investment and hamper economic growth.

As the details of the rescue operation and the identities of the kidnappers remain undisclosed, the public awaits further updates from the police. The safe return of the Fouani brothers is a relief, but it also serves as a reminder of the ongoing battle against organized crime in one of Africa’s major commercial hubs.
